Fines & Fees

The MassArt Library does not charge fines for overdue items. It does charge a fee for a lost or damaged item. See below for rates.
If you have overdue library material and/or you owe more than $55 in library fees, your borrowing privileges at the library will be suspended. Additionally, if you do not pay your fines and return your overdue library books, the library may put a hold on your MassArt account so that you will be blocked from registering for classes and receiving your grades. If you are unable to pay your fines or if you have lost a book, please talk to a librarian. We can work with you to find an affordable solution for you.

Lost or Damaged Beyond Repair* Damaged but Repairable**
Books  $55 $25
CDs and DVDs $30 N/A
Videos & Films $75 N/A
Sound Recordings $10 N/A
MFA Passes $75 N/A

Fees for lost and/or damaged library materials apply to all borrowers, including staff and faculty.

*Patrons can choose to replace an item instead of paying for the replacement cost. If you would like to replace an item that you have lost, please consult with a ibrarian first.

**This is the maximum amounts you may have to pay for a damaged item. Patrons are not charged for damage caused by regular use. In some cases, a librarian may determine that the damage is not extensive enough to warrant repair, in which case you may not have to pay a fee. Every fee will be assessed on an item by item basis.

Film/Video Vault

Films located in the Film/Video vault are rare and delicate and require special care for viewing. If you would like to schedule a viewing for one of these titles, please contact Rachel Resnik in the Library at rresnik@massart.edu. She will help you arrange for a projectionist. Please allow 2 weeks for scheduling. All films located in the Film/Video Vault are shown in one of the MassArt projection rooms. They do not circulate like regular library collections.
